How long have you been teaching and practicing yoga?
Practicing 30 years and teaching 20 years
What brought you to yoga?
I came to yoga while juggling chronic illness and a very demanding, stressful corporate career. I needed somewhere that offered a bit of solace from a life that often felt overwhelming. Yoga gave me that space. It helped me manage stress and quiet my mind, while also giving me a way to move my body that felt accessible when I was unwell and didn’t have the capacity for much else. Over time, it became something I relied on, not just for how it made my body feel, but for how it helped me cope with life.
What is one thing you love to share with students?
I think the one thing you love to share is that yoga is a tool for making life feel a little easier. Not about perfect poses or doing yoga “right”, but about giving people something they can actually use, whether that’s moving their body, managing stress, quietening their mind or simply feeling a little more like themselves. I love showing people that yoga doesn’t have to be complicated or perfect to make a real difference.
What style do you love to teach and why?
I teach lots of styles including Vinyasa, Slow Flow, Gentle Flow, Yin and Restorative, each one is great for different reasons. One of the things I love most about yoga is that it can meet you where you are. Some days you might have plenty of energy and want a more dynamic practice such as Vinyasa. Other days you might need something gentler, or simply want to slow down and be completely supported in a Restorative class. I love that you can adapt your practice to what you feel you need on any given day, while still getting the physical and mental benefits of yoga. Whether you’re building strength and mobility, releasing tension, calming your nervous system or simply creating some space in your head, there’s a practice to support you.
What is your favourite pose?
I have many 🙂 But I will name 2, Wild Thing and of course, Savasana.
A little bit about yourself:
Originally from Ireland, I first came to Australia in my twenties. I spent almost 20 years working in media across a range of fashion publications in Sydney, while also spending much of my twenties and thirties working, travelling and moving back and forth between Ireland and Australia before eventually settling in Brisbane. I opened the first Yoga Bayside studio in Wynnum in 2021.
Outside of yoga, I love spending time near a beach, or water, any water. It is one of my favourite places to be. Byron and Bali are my two happy places, I’m definitely a coffee addict, and my favourite food is pasta (for now, it changes all the time).
