How long have you been teaching and practicing yoga?
I’ve been practicing yoga for 21 years and teaching 17 years
What brought you to yoga?
At the time I was dealing with a health condition and I happened to attend a yoga class and during the final resting pose, I experienced a sense of calm and contentment unlike anything I had felt through years of physical training and sport. I was immediately drawn to the deeper aspects of the practice and knew there was something here I wanted to explore further.
What is one thing you love to share with students?
I love to share with students how to use the breath as a point of focus to steady the mind and develop concentration, while bringing greater awareness to the body and to the present moment. My hope is that this deeper sense of presence and awareness can extend beyond the mat and into everyday life.
What style do you love to teach and why?
I love teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga because it is the lineage and method I have practised and studied for many years. I love the structure, discipline and intelligent sequencing, and the way the breath and movement work together to create a focused, moving meditation. My aim is to make the practice accessible and relevant to all students, while sharing the many physical and mental benefits that come from a consistent practice.
I also love teaching Yin, as it offers a beautiful contrast to the more dynamic practices. I love the stillness and slowing down, creating space to turn inward, settle the mind and connect more deeply with the breath and body.
What is your favourite pose?
My favourite pose is Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle). I love the combination of strength, balance and openness in the pose, along with the focus and precision it requires.
A little bit about yourself:
Outside of yoga, I love to travel, explore new places, seek out adventure and spend time in nature. I’ve travelled extensively around the world, with India holding a particularly special place in my heart after spending many years there studying and practising yoga. My own journey has also led me deeper into spirituality through certain practices and meditation, self-inquiry and exploring the nature of awareness and being.
More recently, moving to the Bayside has been a real blessing for my family and I. I love the community, the slower pace and being close to the water and nature. I’m also a proud dad to two daughters and love watching them grow and discover the world.
Alongside teaching yoga, I’m a qualified Bodywork Therapist/ Remedial Massage Therapist. I enjoy working with the body through massage, assisted stretching and movement, and bringing this understanding of the body into my yoga teaching.
